Post Conflict Reconstruction and the Resurgence of Supposedly Resolved Territorial Conflicts Essay Example for Free

Post Conflict Reconstruction and the Resurgence of Supposedly Resolved Territorial Conflicts Essay Past the talk of customary reasons for clashes which irregularly are likewise at the main driver of African regional common clashes, this paper looks at the inquiry concerning why struggle resurges in states where strife has recently been settled. From the point of view of two significant hypothetical systems in International Relations: Liberalism and Realism, this paper contends that instruments for compromise are regularly short-named and frequently not home-prepped to oblige the necessities of residents exuding from a common war. Nonconformists contend this is basically a disappointment of collaboration among outside and inner entertainers or partners in the harmony procedure. To them, this resistance creates financial issues and hinders doubt which is the undeveloped organism for strife resurgence. Conversely compromise flops fundamentally because of elements underscored by Realism. The contention might not have been ready for goals in light of the fact that the reasonable significance of acknowledgment uncovered huge holes between the manners in which that the gatherings characterized their center advantages. Against this foundation and given the profundity of enmity between the DRC government and MONUC from one viewpoint and dissident developments on the other, financial abundance of the Congo has neglected to produce support for the harmony procedure. Rather, it expanded contact and set extra political hindrances in the method of bargain. The paper likewise analyzes the intensity of peacekeeping as a vehicle for compromise. It contends that the plan and conceptualization of peacekeeping though auxiliary difficulties like insufficient assets, sick prepared faculty and absence of a plainly characterized and manageable vision are at the bedrock of recurrent clashes. In analyzing the job of MONUC and different interveners in the Congolese harmony process, the paper draws in a calculated proposal which tries to explain the distinction between peacekeeping as a middle person, eavesdropper and interventionist in African common clashes. This explanation will educate reasonable deduction on the strength regarding peacekeeping as a vehicle for the goals of common clashes. The contention in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is one showing of the delicate idea of post struggle recreation and addresses the need to step-up strife anticipation procedures to address current difficulties which have offered ascend to new directions to regional clashes in Africa. In spite of sending a Peace Mission to the Congo (ONUC)[1] during the 1960s, and in spite of as of now harboring the biggest and most elevated supported United Nations Peace Operation (MONUC);[2] the United Nations (UN) is as yet thinking that its hard to stop the regional clash in what is viewed as the site for the world’s most exceedingly awful philanthropic clash. The contention, hence, appears to stretch with each reestablished exertion to determine it. Following field visits, broad perusing on the Congo and meetings with struggle experts and inhabitants of the DRC, this paper surveys the suitability of peacekeeping as a measure for forestalling the resurgence of new regional clash. While most talked with are of the view that the difficulties of the DRC harmony process are huge and complex, this paper cross examines the job of MONUC as a contention avoidance system, and its viability in economical peacebuilding in the Great Lakes district. The paper advances reasonable speculation with the view that peacekeeping as a type of outside intercession has the ability to help delicate states in their tranquility building process, and to check forthcoming regional clashes if certain necessities are met. Primer examinations show that, in spite of past research which placed political, normal asset and social underpinnings as reasons for the ebb and flow DRC struggle, the absence of an unmistakably characterized arrangement to stop threats in the East can to a great extent be responsible for the repetitive viciousness. In spite of desire that following the 2006 DRC political decision, the delicate Congolese state had accomplished sovereign development to administer itself with restricted outside help, this paper places the requirement for devoted and convenient financing to another middle person who will draw in a five-staged peacebuilding process which will re-orientate existent hypothetical and commonsense procedures of contention avoidance, and characterize concisely, through arrangement suggestions, another heading for the counteraction of regional clashes. Following this presentation, the following segment will investigate the reasons for regional clashes in Africa and somewhere else. This area draws in a short separation between reasons for clashes and reasons for strife resurgence with the perspective on showing that on the off chance that one can't by all appearances comprehend the reasons for struggle, its goals endeavors will be imperfect and such endeavors will fill in as the foundation on which imminent clashes will be raised. Segment two will draw in a hypothetical review of reasons for strife resurgence. This segment will analyze reasons for strife resurgence as propounded by two principle ways of thinking of International Relations: Realism and Liberalism. Following this, apparatuses of compromise will looked into with chief spotlight on peacekeeping. The Section will stream down to a case explicit examination of in the case of peacekeeping as an apparatus for compromise is a side-effect of intercession or intervention, and whether in the activity of their specialty, peacekeepers fit the bill to be called arbiters or would be viewed as eavesdroppers. This area contends that, between 1999 to 2006 when the main majority rule political race in the Congo was sorted out, MONUC could well be considered as a middle person, however following that period, MONUC till date (July 2006 to 2010) she is a spy in the harmony procedure which is to a great extent driven by the rapprochement that was reached between the DRC and Uganda from one perspective, and the DRC and Rwanda on the other. Reasons for regional Conflicts in Africa There are battling hypotheses with respect to the reasons for regional clashes. Clashes appear to have a reiteration of writing contrasted with other auxiliary subjects of International Affairs and African examinations. Researchers have up to this point not had the option to see the partition between reasons for regional clashes and clashes which follow from the impotency of systems custom fitted to determine them. Accordingly, there is no lack of writing on the reasons for clashes however one barely finds any one who has battled that an incapable goals procedure could start new directions to struggle. Existing writing on reasons for struggle is in some cases constrained in extension to address on causes specifically. Adekeye Adebajo has verbalized political and social underpinnings to be answerable for clashes. 3] This could remain constant for the Sierra Leone struggle yet even with worldwide difficulties, his theories remain to be censured in light of the fact that different clashes like the Rwandan destruction radiate from awkward nature in the conveyance of financial, political and social assets. Additionally, the continuous Sudanese clashes have strict/as well as ethnic suggestions with no component of social or political definitions which similarly come approach to exhume the lacunae in Adekeye’s hypotheses. Paul Collier holds the view that contentions are fuelled by monetary contemplations. He sets that most dissident associations stick onto the possibility of complaints so as to inspire increasingly open help for their motivation. In his speculation, he mulls over that a state with pointless assets, expanding working-age populace, and high joblessness rate is well on the way to harbor struggle. His speculation, however valid for some contentions that have tormented Africa doesn't clarify different cases in Africa. For example, previous British trusteeship of Cameroon affectionately known as Anglophone Cameroon has been howling for a decent amount of financial, political, social and regular assets of the nation. In spite of this, dissatisfaction has not come about to war or any from of solid savagery as has happened in different nations. This wonder thusly makes Collier’s attestations liquid. Immediately, Collier, Eboe Hutchful and Kwesi Aning contend that there are nations that have encountered strife where common assets were not enunciated as the wellspring of the contention. They refered to the instances of Chad and Ethiopia. [5] They recognized that a few clashes have been filled by simply non-asset driven thought processes came about. This is valid with the instances of Angola, Afghanistan and Sudan. They, be that as it may, yielded to the way that in the contentions in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) assets were one of the energizers among different components. They attempted to find some kind of harmony by hypothesizing that the finish of the Cold War finished in the multiplication of arms, and ineffectual post struggle neutralization, deactivation, and reintegration of ex-soldiers which finished in an upheaval of watchful and troubled warriors coming about a few upset detat putsch endeavors. While one may concur with the complaint hypothesis, the million dollar question is what are individuals distressed about as to fall back on clashes, annihilation of property, murder and deaths? Is it about Governance? Is it appropriation of assets? The appropriate response is unquestionably a long way from the recommendations of the previously mentioned researchers. Since certain nations have asset emergency and fumble, harsh systems, and poor administration, however know no contention. This thusly proposes there is yet an obscure reason for struggle, and this reason is most likely one that cuts over all contentions. The current paper mulls over that inefficacies in the systems for settling these contentions could be the mind kid behind the patterned resurgence of contentions in states recently hit by regional common wars. Liveblog Info Session with Karyn Blaser!

Liveblog Info Session with Karyn Blaser! Hey everybody, Im taking a break from working on 2.004 in order to sit through an information session with Karyn Blaser (MIT Admissions Rep). I think Ive mentioned before that I sit through one of these every so often just to stay fresh on current admissions policies and procedures, and typically when I sit through one Ill live blog about it. So here we go! Right now Im just waiting for it to start, people are all signing in on OLPCs (somehow the admissions office got a hold of two of them and use them for signing in now) with Mac keyboards (thank goodness, OLPC keyboards are AWFUL!). 1:56 Im taking this opportunity to finish up my food, Chicken Makluba from Sepal (a restaurant in our student center) 2:04 I just led everybody through a game of MIT Hangman. I chose the words Green Building and IHTFP. Both were guessed and the MIT student didnt die! 2:06 Most of the students here are seniors, some juniors, and poor little siblings drug here (not drugged, drug), from a variety of states (farthest being Texas). 2:07 MIT was founded in 1861 by William Barton Rogers who decided that people werent being trained for life after college, so he created a place that would prepare students to adapt with the changing world and become leaders. Originally MIT was in downtown Boston until 1916. MIT used to be one building and everybody was near each other, something everybody liked (created relationships, encounters, collaboration, and friends). Current campus has the Infinite Corridor, really really long hallway that connects many labs, classrooms, and offices, encouraging collaboration and bumping into people in todays campus. 2:09 Use science and technology to benefit society. is the core mission of MIT. An example are the OLPCs people signed in on. OCW (OpenCourseWare) is also an example of benefiting society. MIT Publishes almost all of its courses (notes, problem sets, exams, lecture slides, etc) online for people to get a similar educational experience as at MIT (but not the same, nothing compares to being here). Additionally, the new cancer research center here is just being finished and will hope to find a cure for cancer. MITs motto is Mens et Manus, Mind and Hand. Its important to get the theory and the smarts, but its also important to get your hands dirty and get stuff done. 2:13 At MIT you dont learn facts, you learn to think. You will rarely ever spit out memorized information on a test. You will sit down for a test and see something completely new, something you have to apply your knowledge to and critically think your way through. It requires adapting to new problems and finding solutions. Academics: An application to MIT is an application to the institvte as a whole, not to a particular major or school. There are separate schools here, but they arent really distinct and are kind of a technicality. School 1 = Engineering, 58% of students. School 2 = Science. School 3 = Architecture. School 4 = Management. School 5 = Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (over 500 courses), 8 required to graduate). Beyond those humanities requirements, there are other requirements, like the GIRs (General Institute Requirements). 2 physics classes, 2 math classes, 1 chemistry class, 1 biology class. Most are finished freshman year with friends and other freshmen. 2:20 Theres a swim test that you MUST pass to graduate. No, Im not kidding. There is also a PE requirement (snowboarding, hiking, yoga, pistol, soccer, etc). Your major is declared at the end of freshman year. Requirements in each major vary vastly so itd be best to look up those requirements. The swim test is ~1/2 the width of the Charles River, ensuring that if you fall in and swim in the right direction you WILL survive. If you swim the wrong direction, well, you shouldnt be at MIT. 2:22 MIT is set up on a 4-1-4 schedule (4 months of classes, 1 month off (IAP) and then another 4 months of classes). MIT emphasizes working with peers and collaboration. Some problem sets ask who you worked with as one of the problems (this isnt actually true, but well let the people here believe it). PSET Parties often happen the night or two before the assignments are due (PSET = Problem Set, weekly homework assignments). MIT has a Pass/No Record system for freshman year. As, Bs, and Cs all are recorded as a Pass on your transcript. A D or a F is not recorded and your transcript shows no record of you having taken that class. This tries to eliminate competition among peers and eases the transition to college without trying to get a perfect GPA first semester. You slowly transition into a normal grading system. Second Semester is A/B/C/No Record, just like Pass/No Record except you get letter grades (much harder to take advantage of). Sophomore year is a normal grading scale. 2:27 IAP (independent activities period) is during the month of January and every student gets to decide what to do. They can stay at home, travel abroad, spend free time on campus, or take fun/serious classes. Some students do research, others take classes like 6.270, glass blowing, MASLab, welding, ballroom dancing, EMT certification, charm school, Mystery Hunt, etc. The environment is much more relaxed and gives students a chance to do things they normally dont have time to do. MIT also has one of the largest underground tunnel systems and can get you around campus during the winter without having to go outside. UROP (undergraduate research opportunity program) is wildly popular with undergraduate students. It lets students work in just about any lab on campus and do research with professors and graduate students. Getting a UROP is as easy as checking the UROP website or directly contacting a professor and asking if they could take you on as a researcher. Its actual work, not just cleaning test tubes, so its important research somewhere youd enjoy working. The Media Lab is one of the most popular places to UROP at MIT. 2:33 Internships are also very popular. MIT has connections with places around Cambridge, Boston, and the world. MISTI (MIT International Science and Technology Initiative) helps send students to other countries to do research with partnering businesses. D-Lab (Development Lab) is a popular class at MIT that allows students to look at developing countries, think about resources available in those countries, and device solutions that address the issues theyre facing. A recent class used a bicycle to cut the corn kernels off of a corn cob so developing countries no longer had to pick kernels off by hand. Wheelchair design is a spin-off class from D-Lab that designs wheelchairs for countries with limited resources. Students in these classes sometimes visit different countries during IAP or the summer. 2:37 Do you need a perfect GPA to get into MIT? short answer, no. long answer to come. All undergraduate courses are taught by professors, not graduate students. Graduate students often run recitations (smaller subsets of students that are all in the same large class), but lectures are run by professors. Standard Eric Lander plug (man who mapped the human genome teaches freshman bio, 7.012). Student/Faculty ratio is ~6.8:1. Can students start their own research here? Yes, but you need to get a faculty advisor/mentor to work directly with. Its less common, but can happen. 2:41 Social Life: Housing is guaranteed all four years. All dorms are coed but one, all freshmen have to live in the dorms. All the dorms are different (suite style, hallway style, kitchens, cats, murals, etc). After freshman year you can a) stay in your dorm, b) move dorms, c) move into frat, sorority, or independent living group. Many FSILGs are on campus but most are across the river in Boston, accessible via foot, bike, free shuttle, etc). 20% in FSILGs, 70% dorms, 10% off campus. MIT has over 450 student clubs and organizations (newspaper, radio station, knitting, MITBeef, cultural, religious, performing arts, a capella, MIT chocolate science lab, and underwater hockey club). Boston and Cambridge also afford a lot of exploring opportunities, food, and theaters/shows. Lastly, athletics. MIT has 33 varsity sports (division 3 except for crew, division 1). 25% of students are in varsity sports, there are also club sports (75%-80% of students are involved in some kind of sport). MIT is like drinking from a fire hose (so much to do, not enough time to do it all). 2:47 Now its just a QA session, which Ill skip, in favor of you all asking questions in the comments and Ill get around to answering them (probably sometime tonight after swimming). 2:50 Psych! Its time to talk about admissions and applying. MIT uses MyMIT for applications. EA is due November 1, Regular Action is due January 1. EA is non-binding and the only real difference between EA and RA is the date its due. EA applies sooner and finds out sooner. MIT has an optional interview as part of the application, conducted by alums who live all over the world. Seniors are assigned an interviewer to chat with. Its not a math test, its just a chance for an alum to get to know you and report back, think of it more as a conversation. Interviews MUST be scheduled by October 20th. You will be responsible for contacting the interviewer to set up the interview. 2:53 Parts: Essays! Now MIT has 3 short essays now instead of one long essay. Students were doing too much story telling and meandering with the long essay so MIT shortened them to get more direct and focused answers to the essays. For the End of the world essay, note that it doesnt need to be a life-altering experience. It can just be a time where things didnt go quite as well as you wanted. Dont stress out about having a relatively boring and lackluster life, this doesnt need to be extreme, just some time when you failed or something didnt go well. 2:56 What do you enjoy? Stuff like Mythbusters, Red Sox games, Chess, etc. What department are you considering? Its just so they can learn about you, they dont have a quota and they dont make this binding. Activities: They want to know what you enjoy, what makes your eyes light up, whats most meaningful to you. NO RESUMES! Whats meaningful to you now. Recommendations: Math/Science teacher, Humanities teacher, and counselor. Academic Record: Which class have you taken (difficulty level), GPA (does it match up with the difficulty and courseload?) and whats your background. Standardized Testing: SAT I or ACT with writing, with SAT IIs in math and science. Score Choice is supported. MIT pulls out the top sections from tests taken multiple times in order to get the best possible scores (Reading from Sophomore year, Math from Junior year, writing from Senior year, for example). 3:01 Admit rate ~10%, so its not easy, but it is possible. Financial Aid: Need blind admissions (they dont care how much money you have). Scholarships are only given for need, not for academics or sports. Loans are also a big part of financial aid, in addition to work study (UROP, on-campus jobs, etc). OK, I think thats it. Thanks guys!

Education Is A Universal Right - 1249 Words

Education is a universal right. Most students find their true passion for learning in college. Taking courses that interest them and avoiding courses that don t interest them, college students find themselves in a world that is coming to an end but, it also leads to a new beginning. This is why it s very important for most students to get an education from the nation s so-called prestigious institutions. In a article written for Time Magazine, Frank Bruni writes determined to get into one of the dozen or so most selective institutions of higher learning in America? I m sorry to break the news, but your odds have never been worse[source]. In his remark, Mr. Bruni is shedding some light on a evasive problem that many students face as well as their parents. In a society that values personal achievement as much as we do, graduating from a top institution is a stepping stone to higher achievements and a better life. But, very few are fortunate to walk in this path. Between applying to co lleges and getting an acceptance or a rejection, it can be a daunting process. That is because colleges and universities place a very big emphasis on grades such as the GPA, the AP scores, the SAT scores, and other things such as recommendations and extra curriculum activities. Volcano Types Essay Example For Students

Volcano Types Essay The distructive power of a valcano is one of the most violent and deadly of all natural forces. In a short period of time, these massive explosions of the earths crust can shatter whole communities. Valcanoes are very distructive no matter how big or how small they erupt at. They cause the highest amount of deaths and the greatest amount of damage. Of the two major types of Volcanoes, andestic and basaltic, the two typical volcanoes begin life when a mass of low-density magma forces its way to the surface. When the density of the rising magma is the same as that of the surrounding rock, it gathers in a magma chamber. Any rise in pressure in the chamber may now push the magma upwards through cracks in the overlying rock. As the magma traveling up a crack approaches the surface, the pressure from the overlying rocks reduces; gases are released from the magma and expand so suddenly that an explosion rips open a funnel shaped vent (called a diatreme) to the surface. The lava that blasts out of the vent then cools, to form cinders, ash and dust all referred to as Tephra. A ring of tephra collects around the vent and, as the eruption subsides, this blocks up the diatreme. Volcanoes have erupted in many different places. We will write a custom essay on Volcano Types specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Volcanoes have erupted in The Philippines, Java, Papua New Guinea Hawaii and many other places. The Ring of Fire, located around the Pacific Ocean, is 20 or so places with active volcanoes in them joined by one big imaginary line that forms a circle (or Ring) when scaled down to the size on a map. Somewhere in the world an eruption occurs at least once a month. Whether it be big or small it doesnt really matter at all. If it kills 1 person or 1 000 people it is still counted as an eruption. In some countries volcanoes are common and erupt frequently as in Hawaii. But in other countries like Australia there are no eruptions at all. That could be because all the volcanoes are dormant or there are simply no volcanoes at all. In 1815, the most devastating eruption ever recorded, killed approximately 92 000 people. 10 000 people died directly from the volcano and a further 82 000 died from famine. The volcano is located at Tambora, Sumbawa in Indonesia. Recently a volcano erupted in Monserrat, West Indies. It devastated farms, houses and streets became rivers of lava. Geography .

Cheap Essays vs Expensive Essays

Cheap Essays vs Expensive Essays Cheap Essays vs Expensive Essays Cheap essays refer to the essays that can easily be bought by customers when required. They are easily available for the customer’s disposal; therefore, the customers have the opportunity to buy as many essays as possible. Based on this school of thought, it is common for the customers to prefer companies that offer cheap essays given the wide opportunity available to buy as many essays as possible. An expensive essay refers to the essays that are very costly to buy or acquire. In this case, any customer wishing to buy an expensive essay will only be able to buy very limited number of essays since he or she is unable to meet the costs of purchasing many essays. It is notable that reduction of the essay cost may translate to many essays being bought by customers based on a theory of demand. This theory states that the higher the price the less the demand, and the less the price the higher the demand. This is to imply that reduction of the essay costs will attract many more clients who may buy the essays from the company due to cost effectiveness for the customers. The rationality behind this is that most customers will prefer to write their own essays as opposed to buying very costly or expensive essays. However, there is another deciding factor for choosing to purchase either the cheap or expensive essays. This is whether or not the essays are written by professionals, and the level of quality that they display. It is notable that not all writing company services are cheap and may depend on whether the company has professional writers with a lot of experience, as opposed to writers with fewer qualifications and experience. The type of management of the company will always detect the quality of essays being offered and the cost that comes along with it. Some companies have certain cultures that are implemented within the organization as far as writing is concerned. This kind of culture will shape the direction and nature of the essays being written. If a company is able to recruit professionals writers at a cheaper cost, then this company is able to offer cheaper essays. In this scenario the company’s essays will tend to be in high demand by most customers. However, if the company does not produce high quality essays then the customers may prefer to buy an essay at a higher cost to get a better service. A rational person will always go for quality products to suit his or her needs; therefore, it may be usual for the customer to buy a fewer number of essays at a higher price than poor quality essays at a lower price. provides cheap custom essays of the highest quality. Innovation Strategies Description Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Innovation Strategies Description - Assignment Example Therefore, Diamond believes that proximate reason as to why some civilizations came to dominate others through militarily, economically, politically, and cultural landscapes are from the effects of food production, effects of writing, effects of technology, governmental organizations, and effects of religion. He thus went ahead to demonstrate how these issues led to the occurrence of differences among cultures (Diamond, 1998). On the other part, Diamond believes that ultimate reason as to why some civilizations came to dominate others is through geography, but not through biology or race of which some studies have tried to prove. Henceforth, geography produces the cultural disparities of which his friend Yali had pointed out. The concept thus implies that Eurasian colonizers did not gain it power they still hold today through a systematic process, or through having the greatest of skill or mind, but pure geographic chance created this difference. The role of innovation in this process is that it leads to the development of systems of some specialized knowledge that eventually leads to the advances in metallurgy, literacy, and eventually the socio-economic organization. Diamond thus concludes that accidents of geography and environment created the domination of whites of the Eurasian origin over other races. Thus, the Europeans received more favors since they had more starting material and also had more favorable conditions. I agree with Diamond’s conclusion because I believe that all people and cultures have the capacity of doing similar things on the provision that they have the resources and privileges of doing so. Another proximate factor that might cause these differences in availability of advanced resources. These resources could be useful for people in all regions to conduct their own research, hence becoming the ultimate solution to many problems that occur in societies.

Barbara Kruger Contemporary Art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Barbara Kruger Contemporary Art - Essay Example The essay "Barbara Kruger Contemporary Art" talks about the Contemporary Art of Barbara Kruger. For instance, in Your Body is a Battleground, Kruger chooses a common font style, which is strongly emphasized against a somewhat monochromatic photo of an attractive woman. However, in this particular work, the woman depicted in the photo is split down the middle, with the left side of her face exhibiting a rosy-colored, somewhat positive expression. The right side of the subject's face is shaded, in a somewhat obscured light, with the artist using a variety of antiquing processes to add further emphasis to the message Kruger is attempting to relay. Further, it is important to identify what specific message is attempting to be sent in this poster image titled Your Body is a Battleground. It is vital to realize that during the latter portion of the 1980's, civil unrest and global demands for independence were being heard around the world. From the fall of the Berlin Wall to radical changes in feminism and women's rights, it is no wonder why Kruger chose to blend contemporary imagery and the written word (usually using red as the font color of choice) to exhibit the pain, suffering, joy, and outright complexity of being a woman in modern times. Having offered this, some individuals viewing Kruger's artwork may consider her attempts at expressing feminism as being somewhat outlandish due to its simplicity. However, using simple materials, such as photography, words, and collage-inspired designs.

Free College Essays - Othello and Honesty :: GCSE Coursework Shakespeare Othello

Othello and Honesty    Honesty is one of the most important factors in Othello.   And although there is very little honesty actually present in the play the term is most commonly applied to Iago, who also happens to be the most dishonest character in Othello.   Due partly to the other characters naivetà ©, Iago is capable of manipulating, brainwashing, and molding the other characters to satisfy his need for revenge against Othello.     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Iago would most commonly be referred to as dishonest, however beyond that he is also downright amoral and uses other’s weaknesses to manipulate them into doing what he pleases.   From the very beginning we see how Iago manipulates Roderigo by pretending he is looking out for his best interests in the matter of Othello’s elopement with Desdemona.   He makes Barbantio angry with Othello and Desdemona by telling him about their elopement then lying about the consummation of their relationship.   He then leaves Roderigo to take responsibility for his (Iago’s) actions.   In the meantime he goes off to inform Othello that Roderigo is accountable for telling Barbantio about the relationship and saying horrible things about Othello.   Iago later brings Roderigo back into his quest for revenge when he tries to get Cassio fired from the position that Iago originally wished to obtain.   Although Cassio knows it is aga inst his better judgement to drink, Iago manipulates him into getting drunk then stages a fight between Roderigo and Cassio.   He even goes as far as to try to make Cassio look bad by telling Montano that he gets drunk regularly. Upon Iago’s explanation of the situation Othello promptly fires Cassio from his position and Iago becomes more respected in Othello’s eyes.   Roderigo is a prime example of how Iago uses people to fulfil his desires.   Iago convinces Roderigo that he could win Desdemona’s love away from Othello and the only man that stands in the way is Cassio.   In this way when he plans to humiliate Cassio it seems as if he is doing it to help out Roderigo when, in actuality, he is seeking revenge on Cassio for taking his position.     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   One of the main reasons Iago is so successful at manipulating others is because they are too guileless to realize that he is taking advantage of them.   Cassio still comes to Iago for advice after Iago rats him out and gets him fired.

Linear Equality Applied in Real Life Essay

From the real life situation described in the prior DQ 1, I found out the form of the equation that can be used to analyze situations wherein decisions have to be made. This linear equation is that of the slope: y = ax + b, wherein x is the independent value and its value is fixed. In the problem 40, the x denotes the fixed rate for each minute used. The variable a is the number of minutes consumed for the call and b is the fixed amount the company charged just for using the service. The variable y is the dependent variable and the total amount for the whole service, depending on the number of minutes used. Figure 1, based on problem 40 (McGraw-Hill Companies, 2005) will help to further illustrate the use of the equation. Based on the graph, Company A costs more than Company B up until a certain point, which is when the sum of the calls Rafaella made in one month was 45 minutes. On the other hand, when she made 60 minutes worth of calls in one month, it is seen that Company B started to become a bit more expensive than Company A. Thus, based on the results, Rafaella should choose based on her own estimate of her usage of long-distance calls. If she’ll rarely make calls or call for only a few minutes each month, she should stay subscribed at Company B. However, if she thinks that her total calls would exceed 60 minutes per month, then it is advisable for her to subscribe to Company A. Table 1. Total charges for total minutes of of long-distance calls in one month for Company

Corporate Social Responsibility Investigating Theory and Research

Question: Discuss about the Corporate Social Responsibility : Investigating Theory and Research. Answer: Introduction The aim of this study is to learn about the retail marketing of the company that is a leading company of retail and many other segments. The companies who deal in retail marketing are very dynamic in nature as they have deal fast changing sectors present in the market. The retail marketing is called as one of the major sector of the economy in various segments like turnover, transactions, and customers. Retail business is one of the most competitive and highly sophisticated industries present in the market. Wesfarmers is company that conduct constantly monitoring of the other retailers and market place (Vargo, and Lusch, 2011). It helps to analyze and identify the latest trends, timely fashion, expectations of the customers, change in the taste, and demand of the customers. Now days, it has become more difficult to tackle the risk and challenges present in the market. This is due to the highly competitive markets and where the taste and preference of the customers changes very quickl y (Wagner, Bicen, and Hall, 2008). In this study, the discussion will be on the wheel of retailing and also on the lifecycle of the retail industries with relevant theories and approaches to make the concepts of retailing clearly. The consumers have a freedom to those the products according to their needs and want which increase the competition and worries of the retailers and manufacturers (Moussa, and Touzani, 2010). They also become this loyal to the brands especially when the products are substitutes, equivalent of good quality and easily available in the markets and industries. The decrease in the international barriers results in increase in the availability of products and services in the market. Furthermore, the change and up gradation in the technology and the advent of the internet facilities has added new parameters to the Wesfarmers company. It also has provided new experience to the customers (Verhoef, Lemon, Parasuraman, Roggeveen, Tsiros, and Schlesinger, 2009). The company Wesfarmers was found in the year 1914 as a cooperative society of the farmers whose major work is to provide services and products related to the agriculture in the Western Australias rural community. They diversified their business in to liquefied petroleum gas. They move form fertilizer industry, then forestry, distribution, and insurance. Gradually, the company has become one of the leading companies of Australia which is a public company in various terms, it has become a retailer. The company is divided into two segments (Hyman, Kopf, and Lee, 2010). the one segment is comprise of retail marketing that itself comprises of fur segments food segment, liquor, outdoor games, and convenience retailer. It is a diversified corporation with more than 220,000 employees and more than 5, 30,000 shareholders. Competitive Strategy The Wheel of Retailing concept was firstly introduced by McNair from the Harvard University. This theory is considered as one of the most observed theory. It refers to the changes that come into the retail industry during the evolution of life cycles. It is a kind of theory that helps in understanding the changes that has been taken place when innovation included in the business organisations. It is a hypothesis that explains that how the retailers can approach to capture the markets and the shares to crate brand value and shares of their company (Boshoff, 2007). It explains that ho the retailers started their business at low sales, price, profit levels, prestige and slowly with time they increase all the above mentioned things. This theory is adopted by the company Wesfarmers also begin with zero. It is not relevant that this theory can apply on each and every retail stores as every tore has its own situations and conditions. Step 1 of this theory is establishment and penetration in the market is very important to set the price of the goods and services sell by the company the process of market penetration leads in high demand of the products as the price of the good sis comparatively less than the products available in the markets (Glanz, Bader, and Iyer, 2012). The expansion in the markets of a company can also be possible when the company improves the working performance and productivity of to the company. The retail business can expand their business by simple analyzing the mechanism present in the market. There are lots of risk involves in the external environment that are required to be analyzed and indentifies (Baker, and Hart, 2008). There are trade barriers and many other barriers in the expansion like high competition, government, and legal factors. The company has to find the target market before going for the expansion process. The main of motive of all the business is to earn profits and profits and revenues can be earned when there are high profit margins in the sales take place. The company Wesfarmers has high margins as they direct make sakes of the products manufactured by them only. In this way, the company can improve by manufacturing their own items (Leonidou, and Leonidou, 2011). There are companies that can change the position of other company by entering into the markets There are many new companies who come up with high technology and good quality of products that leads in slow down the sales and profits of the other company; it is one of the biggest risks for the retail companies that are new entrants into the market segment (Certo, Sirmon, and Brymer, 2010). It can be fixed by bringing continuous improvement and innovation in the products and services provided by the company. There are various types of challenges in the wheel retail company as it focuses only on the margins and prices where the other variable are rejected and neglected. This is not applicable on all types of business like boutiques, convenience centers, and vending machines. Wesfarmers company retailers core competitors are Woolsworth, Hs home, Myer, and best less. These are the major competitors of this company. In Australian market, Wesfarmers is enjoying a leading position (Castaldo, Premazzi, and Zerbini, 2010). There is a significant amount of competition faced by this company as the strategies and policies of this company are very unique and do not let the other company to curb the sales in the markets. Store design strategy and the techniques use by Wesfarmers to encourage the customer, to stay, explore and buy the products The company is using one of the most effective techniques to attract their customers to the stores. The strategy used by Wesfarmers is a defensive model and strategies that is dominating the entire markets of Australia and the other brands of retail sector. The performance and productivity of this company lead the other stores to adopt their designs for the management of the stores. Through such designs the company has added lots of value to its products and services (Booker, Bontis, and Serenko, 2008). The big chain stores like Wesfarmers, where the customers entered just to visit the store, still make purchases without any plan to make purchases due to the attractive displays. The company knows to style and design their stores in a way that customers get attracted towards it by creating and putting g tempting displays items to let the customers keep the m for shopping. The secret behind the Wesfarmers stores are the layouts and designs that have been designed by the famous designers and experts who worked with the major retailers of the world. Window displays plays a vital role which is one of the major advantage with the stores of Wesfarmers. It let the customers simply enter into the stores and shops. Just like the eyes are the window of our soul, the windows of the shops are the mirror that reflects the image of the entire company ad stores. According to one designer, each window should tell a story. It can be done by choosing good colors, to grab the attention of the customers. There must be avoidance of the clutter as space is equivalent to the luxury. There is no need to cram the items of the window as it will look cheap. Try to put only selected items (Yadav, and Pavlou, 2014). It is very important to make a first impression on the customers when they enter into the stores. It is an eye catching moment for the retailers to impress their customers. It may help to make good amount of sales. They also use good room fresheners, and plants. At the entrance of the stores to make the customers happy and attracted (Horava, 2011). The entry way of the stores and shops must be o the right side. There are various types of studies that show that mostly the people look at left first thane right as they entered the shop and stores (Giacalone, and Rosenfeld, 2013). In this way, the customers move to right and then counter clock wise. Wesfarmers follows the same trend and format to upscale the sale of their stores. they use bright color, scents, paintings, and other beautiful things at right to encourage them to move to the right direction and begin to walk into the stores is a counter clockwise direction. The company Wesfarmers believes that there must be a beautiful end and aisle in the stores. There are many small retailers who end their stress at bathroom or store rooms. They must create an aisle at the ends of the stores to lead the customers to a department which do not end and if end than it will be a beautiful end (Jacob, and Ulaga, 2008). Wesfarmers has used its space very effectively and smartly by cutting visual images, parallel aisle, and exterior walls. They have placed everything in a way that it looks beautiful. It helps the customers to navigate the way to the stores into the forward direction. The company has used an angular way to set the angle for the customers (Lukka, and Modell, 2010). It is notices that more than 20 % of the stores do not have any break at their stores which create a situation of mess in the stores. It do not provide attraction of the customers as they do not stop and take break to think and to take rest. There must be long aisles, visual breaks, and signs. There are special displays in between the shops to stop the customers and give them idea about the availability of the products in the stores (Mulhern, 2009). There are various ways to attract and retain the customers at the stores and to make them purchase like The stores can ask the best employees and the customers to visit and stores an dot provide feedback to the other customers. They can also use questionnaire which help to pinpoint the issues. Stores can also take pictures and gather the staff for the analysis of the stores. There is a need to make regular changes in the stores. They can also go and check the layouts and designs of the other retailer have to make changes (Lee, 2009). The retailers can also collect decorative items to make their displays looks more attractive. They can paint and use the themes related to the festivals and occasions. They can use old and unused material like can, cases, old chairs, and paper to decorate the displays (Piekkari, Plakoyiannaki, and Welch, 2010). The displays must be changed on a regular basis to provide a fresh experience to the customers every time they enter into the stores or shops. It can help the stores to make the customers happy and to buy products. The retail stores have to do all sort of work that helps them to retain the customers and to make them buy the products. They have to manage the stores, customers, sales, and products. The employees who work in the retail stores are required to be blend with various types of skills, like dynamic nature, politeness, versatility, good communications, and good understanding. There are various types of requirement that are required in the store and in the store managers to make higher amount of sales (Vaaland, Heide, and Grnhaug, 2008). Technology plays a vital role as it can be used in different types of place like for experiment, to communicate to mobile users, to convince the shoppers, and to promote online presence of the retail stores. The company Wesfarmers can use virtual mannequins to trigger the customers. To gather the information of the product the customers can use NFC enable shelf labels and scan them to add into their basket. They can also make payment by the same (Verhoef, Lemon, Parasuraman, Roggeveen, Tsiros, and Schlesinger, 2009). The company can use their cards to pick and item simple by scanning them using Tesco scan at their stores. It is handy and entertaining for the kids and youth. M S order hubs and browse can help to browse the catalogues for any item and also to explore the information related to the product. The device has card payment ad huge iPhones (Alvesson, and Sandberg, 2013). It is one of the most critical things for all the retail stores and other business. The retail business is all about to satisfy the needs and wants of the customers by providing them great experience and exposure to the stores every time. It is very relevant for the companies to provide a good sales experience to their customers so that they want to come again to the stores. In order to provide this, eth company are requires to have effective and efficient sale persons at the stores and prominent management in the stores (Metters, and Marucheck, 2007). They have the caliber to analyze the demand of the customers their strength, and choice. They should also know to manage in the critical ad delicate matters take place at the stores. They must be patient and fair enough. The people must be motivated to sale the product to the right customers. They must have sales experience to be responsible employees at the stores (Serenko, Bontis, Booker, Sadeddin, and Hardie, 2010). The skills and knowledge related to the sales must be present in the employees he has the caliber to motivate, persuade, and satisfy the customers. The employees who are working at the stores must have good communication skills (Boardman, and Gray, 2010). As he has to manage the stores and customers, some of the skills must be there like customer handling, knowledge of stores, decision making both negative and positive. There is no crisis in the company Wesfarmers but still the company sometimes face challenges relate to the Technology, Customer care services, Product variety, and Delivery of the products. The sales of the company were good in the month of September. Earlier the technology used by this company was obsolete like the payment method and bill counters. Now the company has change the entire billing system. The customer services are also improved by building a separate company for the customers handling. The product variety and quality has been improved by changing the techniques of the production. Wesfarmers Company believes and conducts regularly monitoring of the other retailers and market place. It is very relevant to study the external and internal markets to analyze the latest trends, timely fashion, expectations of the customers, change in the taste, and demand of the customers. As there is high risk in the eternal markets and environment of the company, the companies make regular forecast relating to the markets and competition present. It has become more difficult to manage the risk and challenges present in the market. Due to the highly aggressive markets, where the taste and preference of the customers changes very quickly, Wesfarmers have to keep them updated. The basic motive of this study is to discuss about the wheel of retailing takes place on the retailing industries. As the lifecycle of the retail industries are changing the need of relevant theories and approaches to make the concepts of retailing becoming more relevant. This study will help to learn the same. As studied above, the consumers are free to choose the products according to their needs and want which increase the competition and worries of the retailers and manufacturers. Due to which the customer also become disloyal to the brands when there are substitutes, equivalent of good quality and easily available in the markets and industries.
